John G. Ives has been involved with the film and television industries for over 25 years, as an entertainment attorney, as head of two successful film companies, in distribution, production, and exhibition. He has lived, practiced law and built businesses in New York, Los Angeles, Dallas and Boston. Now based in New England, John handles entertainment and creative transactions for clients all over the U.S., in Canada and Europe. John's extensive relationships within the entertainment industry, with heads of companies, producers, distributors, foreign sales companies, agents, publishers, writers and directors, as well as his own creative abilities and his experience with the development and successful marketing of numerous projects, have allowed him to provide a broad spectrum of service and assistance to clients, business associates and friends throughout his multi-faceted career.

John was co-founder of Cinecom Films in New York, one of the earliest successful independent film companies and a forerunner of companies like Miramax and New Line. Some of the films John has been involved with: A Room With A View, Stop Making Sense, Brother From Another Planet, El Norte, Kiss Of The Spider Woman, A Trip To Bountiful... Some filmmakers with whom John has worked: Robert Altman, John Sayles, Ismail Merchant and James Ivory, Jonathan Demme, John Waters, the novelist Dennis Lehane, documentary filmmakers Malcolm Clarke (Prisoner Of Paradise), Laurie Kahn-Leavitt (A Midwives' Tale, Tupperware!), Peter Frumkin (Woody Guthrie: Ain't Got No Home), and Nancy Porter (Louisa May Alcott).

John has provided legal services over the years to startup companies, providing legal assistance with the organization of companies, incorporation, llc formation, drafting of investment memoranda, mergers and acquisitions - as well as both design and content of business proposals for film, television, documentary, software and publishing projects. He has provided advice and counsel - legal, business, and strategic, as well as considerable moral support - to producers, directors, writers, artists, animators and designers. He has consulted on hundreds of screenplays and teleplays, stories for children, graphic novels, non-fiction book projects and documentaries.

John has acted as a producer's representative for finished and partially completed feature films and documentaries, helping to place films at festivals, with domestic and foreign distributors, and concluding deals with cable TV networks - as well as providing consultation on editing, music selection and clearances. He has appeared on countless panels at markets, festivals and film schools. He is also a writer himself, the author of John Waters: An American Original, featuring a series of interviews with the eclectic filmmaker and his friends and associates, as well as a novel and several screenplays.

John's approach to business is simple and straightforward: honesty, professionalism, creativity, experience and hard work.
